COLLECTIVE SOUL SHINE AT L.A.'S GREEK THEATRE!
Collective Soul played a greatest hits set last night at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles as part of its summer long tour with Live and Blues Traveler. Frontman Ed Roland led the band through sing-a-long standards "December," "The World I Know," "Why Pt. 2," "Gel," "Shine" (featuring Blues Traveler's John Popper helping out on harmonica) as well as new crowd pleasers "Hollywood" and "All That I Know" from the group's current Afterwords album. The triple bill hits Mesa, Arizona tomorrow.

ANTHEMS FOR THE CRAMMED: FILTER ROX L.A.'S ROXY!
To say the Roxy on Hollywood's Sunset Strip Saturday was packed with fans there to see Filter would be understating the scene by well, a lot! With fire marshals on the prowl and at the ready, frontman Richard Patrick hit the stage wearing a military jacket, appropriate for the band's new anti-war, pro-troops-themed Anthems for the Damned album and single, "Soldiers of Misfortune." Exactly one high-paced, high-decibel highlight-filled hour later, Patrick and the band were off the stage, but not before ripping through a set that included "American Cliché," "Where Do We Go From Here," "Cancer" and the Black Sabbath-soaked "Dose" as well as "Soldiers" off Anthems and "Hey Man, Nice Shot," among others. Cell phones hoisted high taking digital picture after picture after picture, the crowd coaxed Filter back for encores that included the obviously appropriate "Take a Picture" as well as "Captain Bligh" and "Skinny." Filter takes a well-deserved two-week break before resuming its tour July 26 in Sayreville, NJ.

SHINEDOWN SHRUG OFF LINEUP CHANGES!
Shinedown, currently on the road with Theory of a Deadman and Black Stone Cherry in support of it’s The Sound of Madness album, are adjusting to recent adjustments – three, in fact – in the band's lineup. "The guys that were with us before just didn't work out," drummer Barry Kerch says to Allentown, PA's The Weekender of the three changes that led to the addition of guitarists Zach Myers and Nick Perri and the appropriately named bassist Eric Bass, of whom Kerch says, "We're playing better live than we have in years because of the levels of musicianship these guys have." That level of musicianship will be on display Wednesday at Crocodile Rock in Allentown.

WILDFIRES TAME MAYHEM, TOUR STOP DOUSED!
The Northern California wildfires forced Friday's Rockstar Mayhem Festival stop in Sacramento to be pushed back to today. Poor air quality combined with 100+ degrees weather caused organizers to reschedule the show featuring Slipknot drummer Disturbed, among others. Get updates at www.mayhemfest.com.

BETTER MAN: FAN FINDS, RETURNS VEDDER'S IPHONE!
An unidentified Pearl Jam fan was rewarded for finding and returning Eddie Vedder's girlfriend's iPhone in a New York taxi. A source tells the New York Post the phone 'suddenly started ringing. The Caller ID said 'Eddie.'" The fan and Vedder eventually met and Vedder thanked him with a handwritten letter, his personalized Zippo lighter and $500.

FALL OUT BOY WORKING UP 'AWESOME' NEW TUNES!
As if being a newlywed, expectant father, host of MTV's FNMTV Premieres and tabloid target wasn't enough, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz tells Rolling Stone the band, well, he and frontman Patrick Stump, are already working on the group's next album. "Patrick's obviously been writing all the music," Pete says, "and the words haven't even come in play yet. I'll go over to Patrick's house and he'll just sit there and play songs, and I'll be like, 'Ah, that one's awesome!'"

CLASSIC ROCK NEWS

RUBBER SOLD: BEATLES IPODS HIT BLOOMINGDALE'S!
High-end retailer Bloomingdale's has been granted exclusive rights to The Beatles' images, a deal that includes selling very limited edition Beatles' iPods, according to Fashion Week Daily. Why Fashion Week Daily you ask? The agreement also calls for the department store to produce a clothing line featuring Beatles images from albums and movies on T-shirts, jackets and accessories for the holiday season. But for music fans, the iPods – limited to only 100 – are the big news. Each will come with every song in the band's catalog. Bloomingdale's will be selling special boxed CD sets as well. The Beatles catalog is yet to appear on iTunes.

SAD SAD SAD: STONES WOOD FALLS FOR TEEN!
Hopefully, this story is as true as last week's bogus David Lee Roth's life threatening allergic reaction to nuts and being saved by two Canadian police story. According to British tabloid the Daily Mail, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, 61, has left his wife of 23 years, Jo, and four kids for an 18-year old Russian cocktail waitress. Wood reportedly met Ekaterina Ivanova about three months ago at an escort bar. A spokesperson for Wood, who for years has battled alcoholism, said they met while he was in a deep depression, gripped by the bottle, and claims the teenager is "a drinking partner. When you're an alcoholic and your family are telling you to stop drinking you simply find someone else to drink with."

HEAVY METAL NOIZE STILL BIGGEST, BEST BUZZ!
According to an article in Canada's Vancouver Sun, heavy metal music is not only here to stay, it is hear to pay. The paper offers as proof the fact that Iron Maiden sold out the local Coliseum last month, Judas Priest has sold 12,000 tickets for its upcoming concert July 24 at the city's GM Place arena and Motley Crue sold out the same venue for its August 11 show. A concert industry insider explains the economic weight of heavy metal by saying, "They've brought in the younger fans who have sort of gone to them as the symbols or fathers of how this all started. So metal's always been kept alive, because of teenage angst I guess."

The two have a 6-year old boy and Gabriel has two daughters, 33 and 31, from a previous marriage. "I absolutely love being a dad," Gabriel said. I know what my priorities should be."
